Writer's Workshop
Students begin by thinking of an idea. Once they have established a topic, second grade authors then begin to write a rough draft. Students will choose from a variety of paper options that will allow them to add colorful illustrations. Mentor Texts will be used to model important writing techniques. Dialogue, similes, and sound effects are some examples of these. Students will be encouraged to try these techniques in their own stories. The final steps include editing and revising their writing. Our young writers will hold more responsibility to correct their own drafts with a revision checklist, working with a revising partner, and finally meeting with the teacher! Last, but not least, it will be time to publish!
We will use this process for a variety of writing genres including, personal narratives, persuasive pieces, nonfiction, poetry, how-to text, and fantasy!
Remember, once you're done, you've just begun! Add to the words, add to the pictures, or start a new story! Writing is always an adventure!
