This holiday sparked our creativity as we wrote, “How to Catch a Leprechaun.” This also combined our knowledge of how-to texts! Although we did not catch those sneaky leprechauns we enjoyed a very fun, festive holiday! Thank you to all the creative builders who made traps. I was very impressed!
Welcome to the Shamrock Shuffle Card Making Factory! We made our own assembly line to learn about all the perks of working with a team to make a product! We sure can work faster and smarter this way! Ask your child about this! A special thank you to Ms. Matney for making us St. Patty's Day cupcakes. It was a great reward after a hard days work!
The experts were at it again as they finalized their chapters to include important details, definitions, and tips revolving around their topic. Second graders shared these with our fifth-grade buddies. We also wrote an introduction to hook our readers and give them background on what they will be learning about! This week we will start…PUBLISHING!
Not only do we love reading books, we love talking about books! We are very excited about our Nonfiction Book Clubs. Each child chose a topic based on their interest level. These choices included Marine Life, Zoo Mammals, Space, Transportation, and Wild Cats. The students are in small group of 2-5 students. Our excitement for this reading adventure is through the roof! Last week the students worked on taking their main topic and brainstorming subtopics that fit into this category. Facts are popping up everywhere and we are already learning so much! I appreciate you supporting this new reading project. A great way to continue this support is asking your child about what they are learning about. Visiting the library to collect books on this topic is also a great idea! We will continue this study this week and our focus will be the conversations and questions we can have with group members about their specific topic. During this time our guided reading books will be from your child’s topic. Books vary in level so your child may need some assistance with new vocabulary words. Thank you in advance!
Last week our class read a total of 4,405 minutes! Wow! I can’t wait to see what we can do this week! Remember, on Tuesday your child can read to a buddy at home and double their minutes! (This basketball is highlighted in yellow). Take advantage of this bonus day and enjoy a good book with a family member.
Thank you to our recent Secret Readers! We enjoyed visits from Ms. Feys, Mrs. Collins, and Aveent’s sister! The book reports continue to flow in! Noah and Camille were awarded some basketball time with Mr. Cavataio due to their extra work! This week’s reward will be treat with the teacher during lunch time! Keep on reading Room 9!
