Meet Me...Mrs. Skinner! Welcome to Room 9 where the sun always shines! Hi, my name is Mrs. Skinner and I will be your second grade teacher. I am sure you are wondering a little bit about me! I am a graduate from Michigan State University with a degree in Early Childhood Development and a minor in Language Arts. I have a master’s degree in Reading and Language Arts from Oakland University as well as 30 additional master level credits from St. Andrew’s University in Ohio, IL. In case you have not guessed, I love being a student as much as I love teaching!

I have been teaching for sixteen years and the last fourteen of these years have been in second grade. I am actually a Troy graduate myself as I attended Troy Union, Larson, and Troy Athens. I love teaching in the district I learned so much from. I am married to my best friend, Scott and we live in Troy. Scott is an attorney and practices bankruptcy law at his firm, Detroit Lawyers, in Royal Oak. We have a son named Jack who will be five years old this September. He too is a Spartan fan, enjoys playing with trucks, and loves digging in the dirt. Jack is a great big brother to Jonathan, who is two years old! He loves anything big brother is doing! In our free time, my family enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
I hope you are ready for a fantastic school year as we begin to discover new and exciting things together. In science, we will be conducting hands-on experiments and sharing our discoveries. We will be reading funny, adventure stories and informational books. Your first-grade teacher told me that you have used “Writers Workshop” and are an awesome author. We will continue writing small moments, poetry, and informational text. In social studies, we will learn about our community and take a trip to the Troy Historical Museum. We will become real “number munchers”, as we practice addition, subtraction, and multiplication through math games and activities.
So get ready to ROCK into action as we live, laugh and learn together! Room 9 Rocks!
